Vertex Donates Solar Aeration to Kids House of Sanford
SANFORD, FL, September 3, 2015: Kids House Wildlife Pond and Garden is “bubbling over”, as it gets a much needed lift from Vertex Water Features—a donated Solar Water Aeration System. Kids House Children’s Advocacy Center—where victims of child abuse and neglect begin their path toward hope and healing— are receiving a tremendous gift from Vertex Water Features. Vertex has donated a complete solar aerating system for the Kids House Wildlife Pond and Garden, plus ongoing water quality testing and monitoring.
The 1.5 acre storm water retention pond has been a work in progress since May of this year. Vertex Water Features assessed the water and decided to donate and install the solar aerator system to improve oxygen levels, create clearer water, prevent algae blooms and create a healthy ecosystem for the plants and wildlife. Solar panels provide clean energy, making the system cost-free to operate and earth friendly. The pond features native aquatic plant species and acts as filtration for storm water runoff that affects 20 miles of Seminole county’s watershed, and provides shelter for Florida wildlife such as migratory and aquatic birds, butterflies and turtles.
Kids House therapists will use this area to treat child clients in a nature-based therapeutic setting. The addition of flowering native plants and trees attracts wildlife and beautifies the area which also serves as a calm place for Kids House crisis intervention and child protection staff to go to when they need to decompress and avoid burnout.
This October, Kids House will have this beautified space designated as a Certified Wildlife Garden with the National Wildlife Federation during a dedication ceremony to honor the many community partners, including Vertex Water Features, who have helped to make this project a reality.
